Tasha Triumphs Again
After playing for Cumbria at both Hockey and Netball over the Winter Tasha picked up the Best Attacker of the Year Award for her Cumbria Netball Team.
In the Summer, she turned her attentions to Tennis, Rounders and Athletics. In early June she came second in the County Schools Championships at both 200 meters (where she improved her PB to 27.3 seconds) and Javelin. The top two athletes in each event go forward to represent the County. She was also a member of the winning 4 x 100 metres relay team, leaving the opposition 1/2 a straight behind at the finish.
She has also started to compete succesfully for Border Harriers, which she enjoys tremendously. Many thanks to her javelin coach Lenny Miller, and her sprint coach Carol Thompson for all their dedication and hard work,
In the school althletics championships she won both the 200 metres and the Javelin, where she threw a new PB and School Record of 30.5 metres.

Her registered kennel name is Keigame Modern Girl.

Steve and Jill decided it was time to take Tia to Boot Camp to crack walking on a lead, and also winging in the back of the car. Steve was quite sceptical about the chances of success, but was delighted when the day prooved to be a resounding success. All that is left to do now is to put in the hours of practice necessary to cement the training.
For those who are interested, we took her to see Ingrid Grayling at Crosby Ravensworth near Shap. Ingrid is a trainer of national repute, and a lovely lady to boot!

Steve and Jill and the girls recharged their batteries ready for the 2008 season with a wonderful holiday in Mexico. We stayed at the Viva Wyndham Azteca hotel in Playa Car, where relaxation was definitely the reader of the day for everyone. Natasha added Beach Volleyball to her list of sports, and Steve took the chance of reacquainting himself with sailing with almost daily outings on one of the hotel's Hobey Cats.
The highlight of the holiday were trips to swim with the dolphins at Puerto Aventuras, and a visit to the eco park at Xcaret.

Near Howe Represents Cumbria

Steve and Jill were delighted to announce that the Near Howe Website won the Website of the Year Award at the prestigious 2007 Cumbria Tourism Awards Ceremony. Near Howe then went on to represent the county in the North West Regional Awards.
The awards ceremony was held in Manchester on October 10, unfortunately Near Howe did not win, that honour went to The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra site. Jill and I had a great night though, and were entertained by the lead singer from M People Heather Small (dancing 12 feet from her whilst she sang was a real thrill!).
