Searching For The Northern Lights at Near Howe
The Northern Lights were predicted to be visible in the Cumbrian skies on August 5th, but all we saw was a great sunset.
Kite Flying Over Blencathra at Near Howe
Steve organised a kite flying party for Tasha's 16th Birthday. Near Howe is an ideal location from which to fly your kites, why not bring one along and have a go!

Alice Breaks Her Arm
On the day before we were due to fly of on holiday to Rhodes, Alice managed to trip when playing at school and ended up with a small fracture in her left arm just above the elbow.
After trips to Keswick and Carlisle hospitals Alice and I missed the flight, leaving Jill and Tasha to go on ahead. Steve and Alice finally managed to fly later in the day, and we were all re-united!
Blue Dream Villas in Pefkos turned out to be an ideal location for our family holiday, with 6 luxury villas surrounding a superb pool. The village has plenty of great places to eat, and some superb beaches.
We all had a great time, Tasha managed successfully completed a PADI Open Water Scuba Diving course with Waterhoppers, and even Alice managed some snorkelling whilst balancing her arm on a lilo!
One of the true highlights of our holiday was a trip on the Glass Bottom Boat from Pefkos to Lindos.

As the snow hit most of the country Mungrisedale got its share. We all had great fun sledging down the hill,and Tia had a ball chasing everyone, and trying to eat all the snow balls!

Bannerdale and Sharp Edge Open for Business
Steve and Jill are pleased to announce that our two new Luxury Apartments Sharp Edge and Bannerdale are now up and running.
Bannerdale is a ground floor luxury apartment that sleeps up to four. It has been designed to be wheelchair friendly without affecting the luxurious feel of the apartment. The accommodation comprises of a large well appointed kitchen/dining/living room, two double/twin bedrooms one with a shower and the other with a large wet room, together with a comfortable sun lounge offering the magnificent views that guests have come to love here at Near Howe.
Sharp Edge is a first floor luxury apartment sleeping two. It has a very comfortable kitchen/dining/living room, a double/twin bedroom and a bathroom with separate shower and bath with its majestic view of Blencathra and the North Lakeland fells.
The first guests to stay in Sharp Edge were regulars Phil and Sheila Entwistle followed by Ian and Margaret Wilson. Both couples enjoyed their visit and have booked to stay in Sharp Edge again for their next stay with us.
Bannerdale also proved a great success, with the first guests Syd, Dave, Sue and Ben Wilson leaving the following note in the Visitors Book: -
"We feel very honoured to be the first to use Bannerdale! We have had a lovely holiday - the cottage is very spacious and comfortable. Thanks very much for making us so welcome!"

Near Howe has been chosen as one of the the ten most scenic Holiday Locations in the Lake District in an article on the Times on-line website linked to Wast Water being voted 'Britain's Favourite View'. The article say 'If you want to enjoy the kind of Cumbrian views recently voted Britain's best, you'll need to check into one of these guesthouses'.
