Weather dodgy, but the welcome and the views more than compensated. Thanks to Steve and Jill, we'll be back when we can persuade Grimeld to don her walking boots.
The Hale Clan - California and North Carolina - Saddlebaack Barn/Grisdale View - 26 June 09
Wonderful time again this time around. A bit of a heat wave, but not enough to detur us from hiking the fells (Blencathra twice, High Pike, Langdale, and a beautiful stroll around Buttermere) Moving over to Stabel Barn for our second week at Near Howe. Thanks to Steve and Jill for another fantastic stay.
Viv Lee - East Lancs LDWA - Saddlebaack Barn/Stable Barn/Howe Top - 27 Dec 08
We were out and about in force at New Year. We had pre-booked Near Howe self Catering barn and cottage conversions in Mungrisdale, offering the best of luxury accommodation at realistic LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) prices with superb walks directly from the door. John Howarth, walks leader for the week, took us to the delight of winter wonderland on Blencathra, the Dodds, Skiddaw House and the Cumbrian Way, whilst Geoff Halliwell completed the week with a walk taking in Keswick, the Watendlath circular, with splendid lake views. With Keswick only 10 miles away, we enjoyed the best of scenery with access to several local hostelries; The Mill Inn at Mungrisdale, The Boot and Shoe at Greystoke, the Crown at Hesket Newmarket and the Horse and Farrier at Threlkeld; the latter was superb. This is a Little Gem of an area which we recommend to all LDWA members.
